a year ago@thetylerfreel I just got back from the Idaho backcountry when the news of your wreck came out. We had one as well. The guide was thrown off down the side of the mountain, the packer bailed his horse, my feet were stuck in the stirrups and I couldn’t get them out to bail and just had to hold on. I had some scrapes and we lost the pack horse with the rifle and gear. Caught it later. The packer seeing what was happening jumped his horse quick. He was able to grab ahold of my reign when I lost it while the horse bucked. Guide was hurt pretty bad. I thought he was dead. When I found him down the mountain he had a stick through his cowboy hat going up towards his head and his hat band stopped it. Pucker factor. Glad you both made it! I am not an experienced horse rider but even those guys who were said that was not a good time and I think that was an understatement. The lead horse came around the trail and caught sight of a wolf we think and it just went to shit from there.
a year agoGlad to see you back home and doing well. I had the same thing happen to me in BFE Canada a few years back and am now realizing how lucky I was to walk away with only my wind knocked out. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
a year ago@thetylerfreel Dude, terrible ending to such an awesome hunt.. happy you’re finally back home in AK. Hit me up next year and we’ll do it again without the horses. Happy you’re getting better brother 🍻
