The Kam Tin Heung Jiao Festival in
#HongKong 🇭🇰 dates back to 1685 and occurs once every ten years. According to tradition, the Taoist festival is meant to honor local deities and ward off bad spirits. The centerpiece is the construction of a massive bamboo hall. Tradition has it that the larger the hall, the more reverence it shows the spirits. The 2025 hall set the Guinness World Record for temporary bamboo construction. The festival also features the parade of the ghost king. Male villagers march a giant effigy through the village collecting evil spirits before carrying the figure to the festival grounds where it’s burned! Kam Tin Heung Jiao is part of Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage.
