Was Jesus actually white? Let’s look at the historical and biblical evidence.
The Bible itself gives a clear description in Revelation 1:14–15: “Hair like wool, skin like bronze burned in a furnace.” That doesn’t describe a European image—this points to someone with textured hair and dark skin.
Matthew 2:13 tells us Joseph and Mary fled with Jesus to Egypt to hide from King Herod. If Jesus had pale skin, hiding in North Africa would have been difficult. Instead, he blended in with the local population—people with melanin-rich features.
Most modern images of Jesus come from Renaissance Europe, heavily influenced by artists who modeled Jesus after local nobility like Cesare Borgia. But those paintings don’t reflect the geographical, ethnic, or historical reality of a 1st-century Jewish man from the Middle East.
This video explores what Jesus likely looked like based on geography, culture, and scripture—and why those original features were altered over time.
