The CEO of this startup disrupting space communications sure knows how to talk to stars.⁣

Northwood Space, led by Bridgit Mendler—whom 2010s kids know as Teddy from Disney Channel’s Good Luck Charlie—raised $375 million this week. The fundraising round co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and DFJ Growth valued the California-based company at $2 billion.⁣
⁣
Mendler founded Northwood in 2022 to develop cutting-edge ground stations and antennas to transmit signals to satellites, upstaging clunky old-school rotating dishes.⁣
⁣
The upstart has been riding the space infrastructure investment wave that’s expected to reach $100 billion this year by pitching investors on its ability to quickly fill the gap in ground hardware needed to give the surging number of satellites in orbit a secure connection to earth. It says it launched six satellite command sites on two continents since its previous fundraising round in January.⁣

Earlier this year, the company inked a $50 million contract with the US Space Force to help it upgrade its satellite control tech.⁣
