A passage you must walk. 🦴
Bone Curtain (1985) by the legendary duo
@abramovicinstitute now part of the exhibition “Open-Ended” at the
@krollermullermuseum in Otterlo.
This is not an object you just look at. It’s an experience you must complete. The curtain, made of rattling animal bones and blood-red ropes, hangs from wall to wall. To see the rest of the exhibition, you have no choice but to walk through it.
The artists force you to cross a physical and symbolic threshold. The work represents the boundary between life and death, acting as a powerful rite of passage. Whether you find it horrific, beautiful, or both, it compels you to become an active participant in the art.
