I finished my inkblot piece! I decided to try this because I felt like I was getting in a rut with my designs, they all looked really similar and I was gravitating towards using the same shapes all the time. I have no idea what made me think of it, but all the sudden making an inkblot and turning it into stained glass hit me like a lightning bolt and I stopped what I was doing (building my LOTR dude) dug out some ink I didn't know I had along with some old paper and went to work! I made like 10 inkblots, had fun, and waited until the next day to look at them with fresh eyes. I liked this green one because it was bold and simple. So I traced the shapes in the ink and translated them into something I could cut out of glass. I made the pattern, picked the colors and it came together! Reminds me of colorblind tests!
This idea is so cool to me because I really like fast things that take forever. The 10 inkblots took me like 20 mins to make and the one stained glass I just showed you took me around 20 hours to make! I also love that stained glass is completely analog so I can be experimental with the design process! I've turned scribbles into glass, now inkblots, next maybe shadows or some action that translates into form? For me there's no computers required and I LOVE that! I wish I didn't have to be on my phone to film the process but I've been leaning into that as a form of art as well, hopefully I can push that envelope more this year!
