Cardi B is pushing back against claims that her lighter complexion and Dominican heritage are the reasons behind her success. The Bronx rapper addressed colorism in a lengthy statement on X, saying she recognizes the prejudice exists but wonโ€™t allow her accomplishments to be reduced to her skin tone.โ  โ  Cardi reflected on the criticism she faced early in her career, recalling how people focused on her appearance and called her a โ€œdirty stripperโ€ before she broke through with โ€œBodak Yellow.โ€ Her comments came after podcaster Damona โ€œMonaโ€ Love argued that Cardiโ€™s complexion and heritage gave her an advantage in the entertainment industry, particularly when it comes to brand deals.โ  โ  โ€œI will never not acknowledge the prejudice in our system,โ€ Cardi wrote, adding that recognizing colorism should not mean diminishing her accomplishments or personal experience.โ  โ  Cardi had a lot to say at the link in bio.
