Be clear about what it is that you object to.

I don’t get it though, do they think we would just let the mom and baby die? If a pregnant woman dies, the baby dies too. I’m an atheist but even the Catholic Church says that you should perform a salpingectomy in the case of ectopic pregnancies and other procedures that end pregnancies, because it makes no sense for both to die.

I say that all the time because this is my field of work and I know this to be factually true. I’ll be adopting a different language from now on so that people don’t get immediately trigger and actually listen to the rest of what I have to say.

If we could talk about the 96% of abortions used as birth control, maybe we could have intelligent conversations about the other very small percentage of complicated reasons for abortion.

I absolutely agree with you, BUT I have had women tell me that their third abortion-as-birth-control was "life saving care" because they didn't want to have kids ever. Maybe we should just ask them how they define life saving care. I don't know. Any ideas?

The problem is, they will twist elective abortion into something needed for mental health sake or say abortion is better than any example you could give for how a woman might be able to protect her unborn child AND get care for her health condition at the same time.

Dr Francis of AAPLOG did a great job of describing situations in which a doctor might need to “end a pregnancy” in the interview SPL recently did with her. Pro-lifers can and should affirm that there ARE medical reasons to do that. Prochoicers would think we’re a lot less tone-deaf if we could at least acknowledge that.

We would not kill any other human being to save someone’s life. Yes, it’s very important to be clear about what we mean when we say ‘abortion is never medically necessary’, but if you tell a pro-choice person that you support abortion to save the mother’s life, it casts doubt on the claim that abortion is wrong because killing humans is wrong. And pro-choicers already refuse to believe that we don’t just want to control women
