How do alerters get a tuned to go off on a specific person? Do they have to be there? Do I need something of theirs or do I just think hard about them when turning it on?

Can confirm both groups I ran Bridge 9 with had both people who read the whole Stormlight Archive and people who read none of it. Both groups thoroughly enjoyed the game and some started reading the books afterwards.
