“Exactly sixteen years ago this weekend we put the key through the letterbox for the new owners of our old house in Peckham and headed west to Somerset. Everything felt new and sharp for it being the first time of a new experience. A surge of well-being fell upon us as we pulled off the road above the valley and onto the single-track lane with its central strip of grass, high banks and hedges. We wound down the windows as we descended into the valley and have done so ever since after a long journey to take in the air and moisture and the feeling of having arrived. We left the car laden and opened the little porch that kept the weather from the house with a new set of keys that unlocked our way into this next life. Inside, the still smell of damp, cold chimneys, the farmer’s swirly carpets and rooms waiting to be occupied by our furniture that was somewhere behind us on the M4.” In today’s article @coyotewillow revisits our arrival at Hillside and the changes that have taken place since. it’s okay if you take more than 4 🤭 🎃🦇🧛‍♀️ happy halloween!!! 👻🍬🍫 yknow, i’ve never really celebrated halloween as an adult! it’s the favorite holiday of so many of my friends and i so see the appeal, but since i grew out of trick or treating there has always been something between me and halloween. i have a sneaking suspicion that it may have had something to do with how halloween calls so much attention to your body with costumes and cosmetics. my memory of anything pre transition is always distorted to say the least 😵‍💫 but i can imagine that younger me might’ve been too intimidated, or too dysphoric, whether she realized it or not. but it’s been a long time since then! im approaching 2 years on estrogen, i’ve moved in with a trio of other girls, ive made lots of friends and im very proud to say that this year is the first in many that i’m actually dressing up for halloween! the costume might not be anything special, just something i picked up at a renaissance fair, but im going to be wearing it to a costume party and i just feel the halloween spirit for the first time in forever 🥹 maybe i’ll leave out a bowl for trick or treaters like the one in this video which— for the record— is full of wintergreen tic tacs LOL yummiee 😋 speaking of this video, i’m so happy to say that mine is one such household 🥹 i was always reclusive growing up, i lived out of my bed, and the same was true for all of my time in college and then some. yknow how they say some kids are living room kids and some are room kids? i was a room kid, but i’ve always shared a house with living room kids and i’ve always been content to let them have it— but since moving in with my best friends i have discovered the brand new feeling of being at home anywhere in my house. my books are on a shelf in the dining room, my warhammer models are displayed in the living room, i’ve set up mirrors and hung up lights- it truly feels like i live in the whole space, not just adjacent or conjoined to it. thank you for reading all this! in the spirit of halloween, i give you a reward lollipop 🫴🍭 #trans #transgirl #transwoman #hall
