Sensitive skin ≠ reactive skin (and treating them the same causes problems).
Sensitive skin is defined by sensation.
Clients feel burning, stinging, itching, or tightness - even when the skin looks calm. This usually points to a compromised skin barrier and exposed nerve endings.
Reactive skin is defined by reaction.
You see flushing, redness, blotchiness, or inflammation triggered by heat, stress, exercise, food, or treatments. It may not sting or burn at all.
Here’s the key difference:
If the main complaint is how the skin feels → sensitive.
If the main complaint is how the skin looks → reactive.
And yes — a client can be one, the other, or both.
Understanding this distinction changes how you treat, what you use, and how you get results!
