Honoured to be part of this collaboration — the first Kazakh documentary to be screened at the @berlinale AND it was directed by a female filmmaker Kristina Mikhailova 🇰🇿 👏🏻✨
RIVER DREAMS uses the river as a living metaphor for women’s inner worlds. Through poetic storytelling, it reveals how women endure, carry memory, adapt, heal — and, when constrained for too long, overflow.
Set against deep-rooted gender conservatism, the film opens space for conversations on toxic masculinity, domestic abuse and resistance, while also holding space for desire, dreams and utopias. At its heart, RIVER DREAMS is a story of sisterhood, solidarity and the quiet power of the female spirit 💫
Directed by Kazakh filmmaker Kristina Mikhailova and originated producer Dana Sabitova. Produced by 24FPS (Kazakhstan), with co-producing partners Sylph Productions (UK 🏴 ) and @_mira_film (Switzerland).
