CARAVANSERÁ is an exhibition and an interactive sensory carnival, inspired by the relational work of the poet and multifaceted artist Maria José de Figueiredo Ciríaco (Rio de Janeiro, 1939-2020).
Poet, troubadour, bus writer, educator, performer, Red Cross volunteer, pen pal of poet Carlos Drummond de Andrade and Monsignor Félix, Bishop of Araguaia, Maria José had a prolific artistic career, where life and art were part of a multiform and multivocal poetics.
Between free neo-concrete art and spoken and written poetry, her works ranged from performance art, drawing and its theory, children's songs to photography and conceptual recreation. Her art, as she herself defined it, was DETER-GENTE (to deter people).
Sculpture is the focal point of the dialogue between the artists, mother and son. Its haptic dimension and openness to change invites visitors to interact and become part of the creation.
During his participation in the Open Residencies at the Centro de Arte Moderna - CAM, Gustavo Ciríaco is installing an exhibition in progress, where he invites all visitors to immerse themselves in his and his mother's work, culminating in a Carnival parade on 14 February in the southern gardens of the Foundation.
