Our upcoming Josie Borain ‘PRETTY BOY’ exhibition involved several weeks of trawling through Josie’s extensive archive of thousands of negatives from her time spent living in New York. This deep dive was led by her daughter
@willowborain, who is also a photographer and film lab technician. Willow’s co-curation of this show has been massively insightful. Her role is both interpretive and custodial, helping shape the exhibition while ensuring the careful preservation and continuation of this remarkable photographic legacy.
In order to reflect the depth of this archive, we’ll also be selling selected open edition contact sheets of Josie’s work, hand-printed in the darkroom by her daughter. These special prints mark a rare moment of transmission, where a deeply personal archive is brought into the world with care, clarity, and continuity.
Willow currently maintains the
@josieborainarchive page, where she curates an ongoing selection of her mother’s photographs, notes, and journal entries. Definitely worth following…
