Death is one of the greatest paradoxes we experience as human beings.

For us, death feels like disconnection.
We lose the physical presence… the voice, the laughter, the touch.

We mourn the human connection that once existed in form — the emotional and mental exchanges that shaped our lives.

But from the perspective of the one who has died, the experience is actually the opposite.

What I have come to understand through decades of this work is that when someone dies, they move into a state of complete connection.

They are no longer limited by a body, distance, or time. They can be connected to everyone they love simultaneously and infinitely.

While we experience grief as separation… they experience expansion.

Grief is the sacred process through which our former physical connection slowly transforms into a spiritual one.

For many people, that awareness takes time to develop. Sometimes years. Sometimes a lifetime.

It doesn’t matter whether you believed in any of this before loss.

Grief itself becomes the doorway where the relationship begins to change form.

And one day, when we cross over ourselves, the connection becomes whole again.

I’m Deborah Hanlon.
For the past 25 years I’ve helped tens of thousands of grieving people and families reconnect with the love that never truly left them.

Follow me if you want to learn more about grief, connection, and the evidence that consciousness continues beyond death. Or if you simply need and want support.

Comment anything that feels authentic for you to remain connected.

I lost three dogs in 2024. Milo first, Rosco four weeks later and sweet Tasha six months later. My first "dream" was about Rosco. ( A beautiful tri-color Australian Shepherd.)He was standing at the side of the house and I reached out and touched him. I actually felt his soft fur, and I said "Rosco, you're so soft". I woke up and believed I was truly with him. My second dream was Tasha. This was about a year later. In that dream I was outside working in my back yard. I heard Tasha's cute bark (She was part Pug, part Australian Shepherd.) coming from inside a bedroom window. I looked over and saw her. Her little paws up on the window ledge and she was looking at me, trying to get my attention. But right in front of the window on the outside was a hazy, fog-like film. I woke up and felt the same way I felt about the dream with Rosco. And a few months later I had a dream about my beautiful Milo. (He was a beautiful red merle with striking blue eyes.) He was lying by our front door and I reached down and stroked him from head to tail. I said, " Milo, your body is perfect." At that point I began calling these dreams visitations. In all three dreams my dogs were at my house.

My son died 4year ago after staying in locked in syndrome for five years after hemorrhage. I dream him often but he is almost always still "sick". But lately he is being more him self before his sickness. I also feel him with me/near me from time to time ❤️

Mine is hard to describe but sometimes out of nowhere and without me having thought about it, the feelings and or emotions I felt during say a moment in a holiday or a day out or just a peaceful day with my husband, I get that feeling, emotion, and I truly believe it's his way of letting me know he is with me 💛

My mom died last night. I had spent 90+ hours by her bedside talking to her and playing soft music for her. She was unresponsive but I hoped she could still hear me. This morning, I forced myself to get up and meet family for brunch. Shortly after sitting down at the table I realized that the song Hallelujah was playing. This was one of the songs I had played for my mom many many times over the last 4 days by her bedside. I felt like she was telling me she was there and that she was proud that I had gotten out of bed and joined the family.
