Muhammad Yunus (born June 28, 1940) is a Bangladeshi economist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate known for pioneering microfinance and social business.
He founded Grameen Bank to provide small loans to people—especially women—who lacked access to traditional banking. His belief was radical at the time: poverty isn’t created by the poor, but by systems that exclude them. By trusting individuals with opportunity instead of charity, he helped millions build sustainable livelihoods.
Muhammad Yunus proved that finance, when redesigned with purpose, can become a tool for dignity and empowerment.
