8 months agoBudgets are going to continue to get smaller. You gotta get more creative on how you’re getting paid (for example, negotiate a rev share on sales, or a backend payment if you help the company grow from X to Y). Gotta think more long term now and more about sales vs marketing for brands / companies.
8 months agoAre you working on films or “other”? So, anything from music videos to corporate … ? There are certainly too many films being made, so lower budgets is a necessity. But for film (all I can talk about I’m afraid) is either massive or small. But smaller is the future, I believe. Smaller crews and lower budgets.
8 months agoThis is the state of the industry. The space is no longer reserved for the largest brands. Every brand has entered. Combined with more distribution channels than ever and greater saturation from creatives and content creators, it has created a new reality.
8 months agoTotally agree! Happy to have the smaller gigs to stay busy and working between the bigger stuff, but, I definitely would say I’m in that 80/20 range. I also think it’s important to share this reality as it’s quite a common thing in the industry, but, since we all tend to just share the “flashy” work it can feel like others are only taking the large scale projects.
8 months agoOh, yeah. Admittedly, I’ve rarely worked on budgets over $50K, but even on the lower end it seems like prices of shoots across the board are getting lower and lower.
8 months agoI think most of us are just happy to have projects and work. Because there’s a lot of people who aren’t getting work and can’t even get by. It’s tough to work on the business and in the business at the same time.
