For those of you who know me, you know I live basketball, it's all I think about, it's all I watch, it's all I dream about, it's everything to me. I am obsessed with basketball. For those of you who don't know me, you don't know the years I've spent dedicating my life to this beautiful game.
When I was 4 years old, my mom signed me up for basketball, I didn't take it too serious in elementary school, but man I loved this game, it was my favorite thing, it's all I would do with my time, I even had a basketball themed birthday party when I was 7, thats how much the game meant to me,
After elementary, my family moved to Chelan, in Chelan I started taking basketball more serious, I made some good friends and its all we would do, we'd be on the mini hoop, on the courts at Don Morse, or in the gym at the high school, I wasn't the greatest basketball player anyones seen in middle school, but I know I was the hardest working,
After my Sophomore year I decided I wasn't taking the game as serious as I should be for the results I was after, so I lived in the gym, I'd be there way past 3 am some nights and I'd be there before the sun came up some others, I put in so much work that I forgot what a rest day was.
My senior year I went even harder in the gym, spent even more time, sweat way more, bled way more, cried way more, prayed way more, but still came up short.
After my senior year I thought I was done, but God gave me an opportunity to play in college at EvCC, unfortunately though, still came up short.
This month I got a concussion, I thought nothing of it I've had many before, unfortunately the ER doctors found and told me that this concussion based on my records puts me at risk for dementia by 40, potential CTE, and other potential long term damage.
Unfortunately it's not the way I wanted my story to go, but God has a plan for me, and even though my playing days are over, my coaching days are just beginning,
So to those of you out there who have a dream, chase it while you can, God won't give you any spoilers in his plan, so live the story he has written for you to its fullest,
Thank you basketball for letting me love you
Shumway out.
