LOUIS, Mo. — A 24-year-old man is facing the possibility of spending nearly a century behind bars after prosecutors said he repeatedly sold the same car to eight different buyers, then stole it back from each new owner using a spare key he secretly kept. Investigators said the scheme worked the same way every time: he advertised the vehicle online, collected cash, handed over what appeared to be the only key, then tracked the buyer down days later and drove the car away overnight. He would then clean it up, post it for sale again under a different listing and repeat the process with another victim. Police eventually connected the reports after realizing eight different people were all claiming the exact same car had been stolen from them.
