White Storks 🌍 One year of migration between Europe and Africa White storks soar on rising warm air and avoid the open sea, so they fly round the Mediterranean: the western storks over the Strait of Gibraltar, the eastern ones over the Bosporus, through the Levant and down the Nile valley. In late August they leave Europe. In October the eastern storks rest in Chad and Sudan, and from December many move on through East Africa as far as Botswana and South Africa. Many western storks now spend the winter in Spain instead of Africa.
