A historic Christian war memorial at St Alban’s Catholic Church in Warrington, England, was vandalized in an attack believed to have taken place on October 30, 2026. The statue of Jesus Christ was beheaded, green paint was sprayed across His body and offensive graffiti was left on the memorial honoring parishioners who served in both World Wars. However, one detail has received far less media attention. Orange graffiti resembling Arabic script was sprayed across the memorial plaque, containing what parish priest Canon Christopher Cunningham described as offensive messages directed against Jesus Christ and the Catholic Church. The graffiti was quickly removed by a church volunteer on November 1, the same day the damage was discovered. While numerous media outlets covered the beheaded statue, few examined the Arabic-looking markings or their possible meaning. The attack has deeply upset the local Catholic community, especially as it occurred shortly before Remembrance Sunday. Cheshire Police are treating the vandalism as a hate crime and confirmed that a 42-year-old man was detained under the Mental Health Act. The parish priest encouraged believers to remain united and strong in their faith despite the attack.
