#TSRTLocalLens: #TSRTPrayersUp — Nine people were killed Sunday after a private jet crashed into a South Florida neighborhood, narrowly missing nearby homes and vehicles before bursting into flames.

According to @APNews, the Learjet 60 was traveling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas when it crashed near a busy roadway in Palm Beach County around 12:50 p.m.

Videos captured by witnesses show the aircraft rapidly falling from the sky before hitting the ground and exploding.
The impact left a large crater and sent thick black smoke into the air. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said there were no immediate reports of injuries or deaths on the ground.

Before the crash, pilots reported severe turbulence, ice buildup and heavy precipitation while flying at 35,000 feet. They requested permission to climb higher, but the aircraft suddenly began descending at an alarming speed. A pilot issued distress calls shortly before the jet crashed.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board, with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration. Let’s keep everyone’s friends and family in our thoughts at this time. 🙏🏽 (📸: @apnews) ✍🏽: #TSRStaffLG #TSRStaffKH

Dearborn civil rights attorney Amir Makled made history Tuesday night, winning a seat on the University of Michigan Board of Regents and becoming the first Muslim and Arab American elected to the university’s governing board.

Makled, a Democrat and outspoken supporter of Palestinian rights, gained statewide attention for defending University of Michigan students and protesters who faced criminal charges following pro-Palestinian demonstrations on campus.

In 2024, police dismantled a pro-Palestinian encampment at the university, leading to arrests and felony charges against several demonstrators. Makled represented one of the defendants, arguing that peaceful political expression should not be criminalized.

In May 2025, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office dropped felony charges against seven people arrested during the demonstrations. Nessel maintained that the cases had merit but cited ongoing controversy surrounding the prosecutions.

Makled’s advocacy extended beyond the courtroom. In April 2025, he reported being detained and questioned by federal agents at Detroit Metropolitan Airport after returning from a family vacation. Makled said agents questioned him about his legal work and sought access to his cellphone. Federal officials disputed his suggestion that the encounter was politically motivated.

His campaign for the Board of Regents emphasized protecting free speech, defending students’ rights and increasing accountability within university leadership.

Makled’s nomination also drew significant attention in April when Michigan Democratic Party delegates backed him over incumbent Regent Jordan Acker amid disagreements over the university’s response to pro-Palestinian demonstrations.

The University of Michigan Board of Regents oversees the university’s governance, finances and major institutional policies.

Makled’s election marks a historic milestone for Michigan’s Arab American and Muslim communities, bringing a new perspective to one of the state’s most influential public university governing boards.

Dressed like the night sky, adorned like the stars. A little magic at the Tatler Ball 🌟

The theme of the night was ‘A Constellation of Brilliance’ so here’s my sparkly navy gown from @rentadella inspired by the night’s sky, paired with High Jewellery from the iconic @tiffanyandco Flowers and Stars collection designed by Jean Schlumberger. An ode to the stars 🌌
