Happy Birthday to former F1, BTCC & CART driver, winner of the 1992 24 Hours of Le Mans and MB Motorsport Sporting Director Mark Blundell - 60 today.
Mark competed in 61 F1 races for Brabham, Ligier, Tyrrell and McLaren (also testing for Williams), taking podiums at Kyalami, the Hockenheimring and Barcelona - podiums he shared with Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, Alain Prost & Damon Hill.
Blundell moved to to IndyCar between 1996 & 2000, surviving a brake failure in just his 2nd race in Rio; impacting the wall at 196mph and an astonishing 120G.
He took 3 wins with PacWest Racing, all in 1997 in Portland, Toronto & Fontana en route to 6th overall.
Mark won the 24 Heures du Mans alongside Derek Warwick & Yannick Dalmas for Peugeot in 1992, and came 2nd 11 years later with David Brabham & Johnny Herbert with Bentley.
After 15 years away from full-time racing he joined the BTCC in 2019 with Trade Price Cars Racing before forming MB Motorsport the following year and forming an initial alliance with Motorbase.
That partnership saw MB Motorsport rapidly rise to the top end of the series, principally with Jake Hill, with whom Mark and MB Motorsport switched to West Surrey Racing in 2022.
As of the end of 2024, Mark was able to add BTCC title to his list of achievements as Jake secured the championship in partnership with Laser Tools Racing, who have followed Mark & MB Motorsport to Speedworks Motorsport for the 2026 season.
Many Happy Returns, Mark 🇬🇧
