“Not again, thought I. I’ve never read a word, nor seen a flickering screen moment, of George R.R. Martin‘s magnum opus. I have no interest. So why should I be interested in Viserion‘s blood n’thunder tribute to the House of Targaryen, whatever that is?
Well, as Sentinel Daily editor Scott Adams put it, so bluntly yet succinctly, “Sentinel Daily is a music magazine. Don’t worry yourself about the source material, just listen to the bloody thing”.
As ever, wise words. Because there’s absolutely no need for you to be interested in GoT to get full value from Fire and Blood; Within it’s half dozen tracks the band runs the full gamut of ‘proper’ black metal, hacking and slashing as required, caressing the ears with brief blasts of melody when necessary, and keeping up a thumping pace and intensity throughout.”
