A couple months ago, I got a call from @victorwooten asking if I was free later that day to help him with a project he was working on.

He invited me over to his place and showed me a song that his brother @jwootensoul had sang on, that he wanted Yo-Yo Ma to play on. He’d sketched out the cello solo on electric bass into a voice memo, and we took his part and wrote out a part for Yo-Yo to play together. We recorded a voice memo right there, which he sent along to @edgarmeyerbass to pass along to Yo-Yo to listen to :)

Fast forward to last week—I had the incredible honor of joining a group of Berklee students to track orchestral strings for the same project, conducted by John Clayton. After the session, I had the chance to record a second demo of the cello solo to help refine the cello part a bit before Yo-Yo records it.

Super grateful to be a small part of this project. Huge thanks to @victorwooten, @royfuturemanwooten, @jwootensoul, and @johnclaytonjazz :)

And @yoyoma, if you see this — I hope you like the cello part, there’s a weird shift around measure 94 that really sucks but I know you’ll nail it 🤠 and please convince them to keep that lick in there at the end that I wrote 😁😁🫶
