• Brain Arteriovenous Malformation
(AVM) surgery involves removing abnormal blood vessel tangles in the brain, often via. “microsurgical resection to prevent or treat bleeding.
• Observation: You will be closely monitored in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or specialized neuro unit to check for bleeding, swelling, or neurological changes.
•Closure: The skull is reattached with titanium screws, and the scalp is stitched.
• Microsurgical Resection (Open Surgery): The most direct method, involving removing a portion of the skull (craniotomy) to allow a surgeon to disconnect and remove the AVM from surrounding brain tissue.
•Risks: Potential complications include stroke, brain swelling, or hemorrhage, depending on the AVM’s location and size.
•Follow-up: Brain scans (e.g., angiogram) are performed to ensure the entire AVM has been removed.
