It started with the simple desire to create a playlist of my favorite Kalindula and Zamrock songs…
but one article by Jolezya Adeyemo and a few vintage ZNBC clips later, I found myself transported straight back to my childhood.
That first photo is exactly where it begins for me. Friday nights spent on the rug, watching Zilile Ngoma with Claudia Sindaza and Frank Mutubila.
Reading Jolezya’s piece for Nkwazi Magazine was the spark that turned a simple playlist into a full-blown deep dive. It reminded me that this music isn’t just “vintage”, it’s history, its identity.
I’ve spent the last few hours lost in the archives, noticing everything from the strumming of the guitar to the studio production behind the “Bemba Sound.”
This playlist feels personal in a way I can’t quite explain. A bridge between that little kid on the floor and the sounds that still make us move today.
The last song is particularly special to me. It reminds me of my grandmother ❤️
