There’s so much I want to say about last night’s @originsmcr showcase, Drawn From Life, a collection of animated short films drawn from real memories, real lives, and real feelings.

But among them all, @twoblackboysinparadise really struck me for how liberatingly queer it is.

The way director @bazsells and producer @germanbenjack spoke about it in the Q&A with @lewkdavies resonated with me as a queer creator.

Sometimes it’s hard to justify, even to myself, why I keep pushing in an industry that is so difficult.

When Luke asked, “What is paradise for you today?”

Baz said, “To make another movie,” and Ben said, “being able to marry the person you love, something that wasn’t legal a few years ago.”

That passion, that need to express yourself for who you really are, and the desire to share lessons from the journey that might be useful to others... I feel that too. It’s probably why I write what I write.

Thank you, @colonycowork, for hosting the night!

The ‘Drawn From Life’ programme is a special compilation of short animated documentary, and semi-autobiographical works, presented by @mediaactiveprojects in partnership with @animateprojectsuk and @filmhubmidlands
