Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms won the Georgia governor’s race, the Associated Press said. She is the first Black woman to be elected governor in U.S. history.⁠ ⁠ With 75% of the vote counted, Bottoms, a former Atlanta mayor who later worked in Joe Biden’s White House, had 55.4% of the vote, to 44.6% for Republican Rick Jackson.⁠ ⁠ Bottoms, 56, ran a campaign focused on rising costs. She promised that she would stand up to President Trump and work to expand Medicaid in Georgia. She slammed Republican Rick Jackson, 72, for praising Trump during the Republican primary, during which Jackson at one point said he wanted to be Trump’s favorite governor.⁠ ⁠ Democrats are off to a strong start in the midterm election, flipping their first Senate seat of the night in North Carolina and holding seats in Georgia and New Hampshire. Democratic incumbent Sen.
