Tucked away in the Welsh countryside near Cwmyoy lies one of the most unusual churches you’ll ever see… St Martin’s Church.

At first glance, it looks like any peaceful rural church, but step a little closer and you’ll notice something isn’t quite right. The walls lean, the floor slopes, and the whole building feels like it’s slowly sliding down the hillside.

Often nicknamed the “most crooked church in Britain,” St Martin’s has been battling the landscape for centuries. Built in the 12th century, it sits on unstable ground, and over time landslips have twisted and shifted the structure into what you see today. Inside, it’s even more surreal with tilted pews and an altar that doesn’t quite sit straight.

Despite all of that, it’s still standing… and still incredibly peaceful. There’s something about this place that feels frozen in time, like the landscape and history are quietly wrestling with each other.

Definitely one of those hidden gems that’s well worth the visit if you’re exploring the Black Mountains.
Have you ever seen a church like this before?
