Looking forward to working with our community to dream about what this can look like. Stay tuned for more on that.
Joint statement from Homeland Stores and RestoreOKC:
Many of you heard the news last week that to ensure its long-term ability to serve communities across our state,
@homelandstores is closing and consolidating several locations across Oklahoma.
Over the past several weeks, our teams have been working to ensure the grocery store at NE 36th & Lincoln was not placed on a closure list. As a result of our partnership and those conversations, @homelandstores moved the location to a potential sale list rather than closing it to allow us time to find a path forward for community-ownership.
@homelandstores and
@restoreokc have partnered for more than five years to expand food and health access in Northeast Oklahoma City through initiatives like
@marketateastpoint.
During this exploration period,
@homelandstores will continue to absorb operating costs while @RestoreOKC works with partners to raise the necessary funding to secure the store for long-term community ownership.
Both organizations share a deep commitment to the neighborhood and recognize the importance of this location as a vital source of food access, local jobs and economic stability.
Our hope is that through collaboration we can not only keep the store open, but ensure it becomes a long-term community asset that helps rebuild a circular economy where the people who live here share in the value created here.
