Kayzel Forbes, the DAโ€™s Ward 50 candidate in Kariega, believes her political work may have made her a target after her home was torched late on Monday. Forbes and her three daughters escaped the blaze, although her 17-year-old daughter sustained burn marks. Police are investigating arson and no arrests have been made. Forbes is challenging the ANC in a ward long considered one of its strongholds and has vowed to continue campaigning despite the attack. Read the full story via link in bio.

Today marks 10 years since my dad passed away. Itโ€™s been a minute since Iโ€™ve posted on here but this feels like quite a monumental reflection period in my life. I wanted to share something that happened on my dadโ€™s birthday last year which still sticks with me to this day. My little sister recently got engaged & she surprised me with something Iโ€™ll never forget. On December 7th last year, my sister surprised me with pitch side access to the Fulham vs Crystal Palace & this is where she asked me to walk her down the aisle as my dad wouldnโ€™t be able to. Something I will never forget. Big shoutout to @fulhamfc who sorted everything out for us when they found out the context behind it all โค๏ธ My dad & I went home & away to Fulham games with my sister coming along too when the chance arose. This particularly happened in my early teenage years onwards & created a close bond with my dad. Sometimes I donโ€™t think he cared as much about the football as I did, but he did it as it brought us closer together. The toy dog in the photo is something I gave to him as a kid when my parents got divorced & he took it everywhere with him. I say all this as I feel a wave of emotion today. Not only for the above story for which Iโ€™ll forever be grateful to my sister for, but for what Iโ€™ve experienced without my dad. A lot has happened, and I feel Iโ€™ve achieved a lot in the last decade. I just wish he could have seen it all. Most importantly, I know a lot of people have also lost parents & people close to them over this last decade & itโ€™s tough. All I can say is that it gets easier & we should be grateful for the great memories we have of our loved ones. Love you dad & miss you โค๏ธ
