رای‌دهندگان سه‌شنبه دوازدهم آبان در ایالت‌های مین و اوهایو پای صندوق‌های رای رفتند و انتخابات میان‌دوره‌ای آمریکا آغاز شد؛ انتخاباتی که نتیجه آن، کنترل کنگره در دو سال پایانی دوره ریاست‌جمهوری دونالد ترامپ را مشخص خواهد کرد. در این انتخابات، تمامی ۴۳۵ کرسی مجلس نمایندگان و یک‌سوم کرسی‌های سنا به رقابت گذاشته شده‌اند. همچنین، ۳۶ ایالت انتخابات فرمانداری برگزار می‌کنند. نظرسنجی‌ها و تحلیلگران مستقل، شانس پیروزی دموکرات‌ها در مجلس نمایندگان را بیشتر می‌دانند، اما نتیجه رقابت برای کنترل سنا همچنان نامشخص است. این انتخابات همچنین به نوعی همه‌پرسی درباره عملکرد ترامپ تبدیل شده است؛ در حالی که نگرانی رأی‌دهندگان درباره هزینه‌های زندگی و افزایش قیمت سوخت، به یکی از محورهای اصلی رقابت‌ها تبدیل شده است.
