It’s Easter Sunday. A truly holy day in my religion’s year. And to my astonishment I read President Trump’s message from today. What I say next may prove controversial but I’m glad he’s said it in writing, for all the world to see and digest. For 40 years we’ve seen one state shout death to the USA and the West. Slaughter its own people. Kill homosexuals and women who forgot to wear a headdress. Killed all of their political opponents as soon as they got into power. Sew terror across the globe. Fund destruction through proxies on an epic scale. Build a state apparatus of terror worse than the Gestapo and SS. I’ve had to tolerate this hate spreading to the streets of my capital and other cities week after week making a mockery of free speech and tolerance for which we are famous. Hear bigots and racists besmirch the history of my country - my ancestors who build a great nation (with all its faults). My bloodline that goes back to the Norman conquest. So finally - when Trump expressed his rage and indignation at the crazies in Iran (not the vast majority of Iranians who have their own proud history) I smiled. “Hell yeah”. Is war nice? No. I saw what it did to my own father from WW2. Is it necessary sometimes? Yes. No plan survives contact with the enemy. But they ARE our enemies. Clear and simple. We can no longer pretend and wring our hands. Enough. I support the Donald on this one. Not everything he does but on this one…
