Another late Saturday night shaped my memories took place 2018
After a sold out show of BDGH (BEY/DAVE/GLASPER/HODGE) at the ELYSEE MONTMARTRE where the four magicians showed there skills & range in an extraordinary live show (I believe it was also recorded) we organized a late night aftershow in one of my favorite venues.
THE NEW MORNING @newmorningparis is a place dear to my heart since I had incredible shows there and I was able to witness greatness in many shapes ..
As our manager was secretly celebrating his birthday we jammed on top of my records and I still remember @yasiinbey asking me a couple times for some FELA .. (one of his favorite requests) but I insisted to keep it for some later moment ..
Meanwhile the crew on stage grew and all kind of percussions where used including the dj table to drum along what ever I played ..
Well finally that one moment came when I felt it’s time and dropped SUFFERING AND SMILING .
Meanwhile SEAN KUTI who wanted to surprise the crew entered the building and after congratulations to MIKL asked why he spoiled the surprise by telling me ..
Mikl just smiled and answered that’s ben* .. „he don’t need no spoiler to know when to drop songs .. „
SEUN managed to surprise us all and also manifested the trust in my own alignment before anything.
But oke thing this little snippets also captures..
At the highest moment of the celebration the needles skipped due to too much vibrations on the table .. a risk we always face and try to handle ..
But it also manifested the use for tools technical advancements over strict roots & conservative wax culture .
There are clear advantages in the use of technical gear in live settings and creative use .
As much we have to keep the roots strong we also need to find new solutions to old problems and finding balance in those is key to P*28.
