Happy (belated) May Day!
This year, Bay Area organizers banded together with three calls to action: No ICE, no war, and to prioritize workers over billionaires.
As a union rooted in Oakland, we have made protecting our immigrant neighbors a priority. We previously TA’d contract language that protects employees from complying with ICE, bars the company from sharing immigration information with ICE and other federal agencies without proper warrant, and pushed management to designate employee areas as private areas that ICE cannot enter. Language like this is part of a larger movement encouraging all unions to fight for immigration protections in their CBA’s (contract bargaining agreements).
In addition, our members shared updates on what HWWU is to face next: negotiating economics, facing a brand new lawyer, and next steps (or lack of them) for the Montclair reopening. After a successful info picket, our union is energized and ready to fight back!
