Half of his face was left shattered, he lost his left eye and ear. He was airlifted to Germany where surgeons partially reconstructed his jaw for him.
The Pentagon awarded him the Congressional Medal of Honor. During the ceremony, the applause and ovation lasted more than 8 minutes.
We don’t deserve these creatures. They will willingly face death for those they love. They can be mistreated and still stay loyal. The list is endless when it comes to their qualities. I believe God gave us dogs so we can understand that love is communicated through actions and not words. This is a being that you can love more than anything without ever having a conversation with them.

That's what I mean. He did not know what he signed up for. Others get killed or lose legs etc or have severe trauma. I think its unethical to work dogs in police or military. And I love igp, ring sports, I believe in balanced training etc. But it's not heroic. I served in the military and if humans sign up for that and know what they sign up for, it can be heroic. But the dog just follows a handler he loves and trusts blindly. Just to get shot to bits. Or stabbed with a knife by a crackhead. I don't believe in that.
