Sorry for the strange post tonight—this is going up so that I can pin it to my profile, in order to give newcomers a better upstanding of how my online shop operates!
In short, I operate via the ‘drop’ method, not as a means of intentionally building scarcity and anticipation, although those are byproducts of the system. By selling my pottery in regular restocks, I’m able to carve out better allotments of time for actually creating the work, making cycles, I call these.
If, on the other hand, my online store was restocked sporadically, but very regularly, I’d constantly be switching between making pottery, photographing it and shipping it, all of which would create for a chaotic atmosphere in studio as for each of these tasks, I have to partly rearrange the workshop due to it’s size. I don’t have a team of people helping me. Everything you see here, from the pottery to the videos and photography, is entirely a one-person operation and thus, by making the ‘drops’ less regular, I can be more dedicated and thoughtful when it comes to crafting my pots.
Typically, I aim for 2-3 sizeable restocks a year and there may be separate exhibitions elsewhere, which I tend to post about when they’re happening. I don’t take pre-orders or orders, but I will consider commissions if they’re part of something interesting. The shop updates are first come, first serve, and I ship internationally. As work does sellout so rapidly, (2-5 minutes is what has become the norm), one bit of advice is to check out multiple times in quick succession, instead of slowly adding work to your basket. In those cases, I box work up together and refund excess shipping costs.
If you’re in the US, (and most other countries these days), there’s often a tariff/tax you’ll have to pay when then parcel reaches you, I don’t pay this, so pay attention to your tracking as to help the box sail through customs.
If I’ve forgotten anything, as this post will be pinned to my profile, I’ll add it to the comments below!
Thanks so much and with any luck I’ll have some news soon with exacting dates for my next restock!
