6 years ago I accepted an invite from
@remraf_road to go on a guy’s mountain biking trip.
4 rides over the course of about 48 hours in Fruita, CO.
I was scared. I had only been mountain biking as a hobby for about a year and my bike was, let’s just saying… lacking.
If I knew how it would go beforehand I probably would have not gone.
🚵♂️ My bike chain broke almost immediately.
🚵♂️ I didn’t properly hydrate for a 20 mile ride in the heat.
🚵♂️ My quads cramped up so bad I had to walk the last few miles.
🚵♂️ I was always in the back of the pack worrying I was slowing everyone down.
And it was one of the greatest weekends of my life!
I’ve now gone on this trip 6 years in a row and I look forward to it every year. Yes, I still get nervous about some of the double black trails through Moab that take 4-5 hours and I have to walk certain parts because I enjoy living, but I’ve also put in the reps now to be excited, properly fueled and hydrated, and just better at mtn biking.
The point of all this is to say: challenge yourself. Try new things no matter your age. And don’t quit just cause you fail or suck at it.
Mountain biking has quickly become a favorite hobby of mine and it’s led to some amazing experiences and memories. And I’ve met some of the coolest people along the way that are now friends.
Our minds and bodies live for this stuff. Don’t deprive them of maximizing their full potential.
Thanks for that invite 6 years ago, Justin! 🚵♂️
