Some objects earn their place by becoming part of one’s rhythm.

My Blackwing pencil has long been a favourite: precise in the hand and beautifully weighted. Beside it, a solid brass sharpener from Germany. These three journals hold much of my watercolour work and the top one is still waiting for its first marks.

The little wooden cat was made for me by someone very dear. It often finds its way onto the table as I work — a small companion and a reminder that the things we make are often shaped as much by affection as by intention.
