Had a great visit to Chartwell in Kent — such a nice experience with kids. The house tour is relatively short, which worked perfectly, and instead of an audio guide there are staff in each room you can talk to. Being able to ask questions made it feel much more personal.

There’s also plenty outside to explore, including play areas for kids (a bit of a walk to get to them), beautiful grounds, and really good café food as you’d expect from a National Trust site.

Quick tip: bring comfortable shoes and a water bottle.

If you’re looking for things to do in Kent with kids, this is definitely worth a visit.

I loved it there. It was amazing the gardens and his paintings were something else.

The people in the rooms at National Trust places are usually volunteers rather than paid staff ❤️

You did it! National Trust membership. Makes so much sense with the family. And Kent has so many sites. I was at Sissinghurst Castle this weekend, which is fun. Bodiam castle is the traditional huge castle with a moat and then there's Scotney, Knole Park, ightham mote, Bateman's. So many in Kent and East Sussex. Have fun! 🙌

There was a BBC series called’The Treasures of the National Trust. In one episode they restored the war map that you saw - or a similar one. Worth watching if you can find it.

We went a couple of years ago and as well as being fascinating, it did feel like a family home. National Trust members - well done! Lots of fun to be had with your girls.

You will probably enjoy the War rooms in London (if you haven’t been there yet). Loads of very interesting information https://www.iwm.org.uk/visits/churchill-war-rooms
