Thank you to @yomi_sode and @natfiawoo for inviting me to speak at ‘The Hatching.’ A show that had been long in the works but shifted in many ways to create a response to Oxford University allowing a talk by Nathan Cofnas to go ahead. This is a near ten minute speech that I’ve cut down so you have the essence. Prof Jason Arday. At the core of this are institutions that refuse to dignify a Black man in life and in death. The brief I was given was ‘the awkward conversation’ and having your name mispronounced is one of those awkward things that I wanted to build on thematically.
