Yang Xinguang: Dark Surfaces

On view from April 19 to October 11, 2026, this exhibition marks the artist’s largest institutional solo presentation to date, bringing together more than ten newly commissioned works spanning installation, sculpture, video, and site-specific interventions.

Staged within the museum’s cave-like architecture and surrounding landscape, the exhibition draws on the ecological concept of the “litter layer”—a site of decomposition and regeneration—to reflect on material transformation and humanity’s entanglement with the natural world.

Through subtle interventions that suspend, replicate, or disrupt natural processes, Yang Xinguang repositions organic matter as something both familiar and estranged, inviting consideration of whether human action exists within, or apart from, natural cycles.

This exhibition is curated by UCCA Chief Curator Chelsea Qianxi Liu.
