Four Nigerian-Americans elected in US midterm election

Four Nigerian Americans won races in the November 3 US midterm elections, securing state and local offices in Maryland, Texas, Washington, DC, and Pennsylvania. A fifth candidate, Georgia state Representative Segun Adeyina, was leading in his race, which remained uncalled as votes were counted.

In Maryland, Democrat Will Jawando defeated Republican Esther Wells in the race for Montgomery County executive. Jawando, the son of a Nigerian father and an American mother, served on the Montgomery County Council before the election.

In Texas, Democrat Junior Ezeonu, 27, won the District 101 seat in the state House of Representatives. He defeated incumbent Chris Turner in the Democratic primary and was the only candidate on the general election ballot after no Republican entered the race. According to his campaign biography, Ezeonu was born in Onitsha, Anambra State, and moved to Texas at the age of two.

In Washington, DC, Democrat Oye Owolewa won an at-large seat on the District of Columbia Council. Owolewa, a pharmacist whose parents immigrated from Nigeria’s Kwara and Osun states, previously served as the district’s elected shadow representative, a role that advocates for DC statehood without carrying voting rights in Congress.

In Pennsylvania, Democrat Carol Kazeem retained her District 159 seat in the state House of Representatives, defeating Republican Michael Bannon.

In Georgia, Adeyina, a Nigerian-born Democrat, was seeking re-election to the state House of Representatives in District 110 against Republican Charles Lollar.

I JUST RAN THE NYC MARATHON!! And I did it 20 MINS FASTER THAN MY PB?!

3:49😭

It really isn’t about the time at all, but I think when you’ve somehow managed to run 20 mins faster, it’s impossible to ignore the progress and how much a body can do in a year. I was thinking I was going to scrape a sub 4 in my head. So who knows what happened. Maybe the crowds, maybe the carbs, maybe the fact it’s in my fave city in the world

I just don’t know how i did that!! so hard but so incred and it’s genuinely proof so much of it is in the head

CRYINGGGGG screaming (hopefully not throwing up)

@sports_tours_international tysm for my place 🥺
Also @coachtommy for coaching me through this and believing in me🫡🤛🏼

Starting our day the Kaikai way! If you ever wondered what a happy elephant looks like — look no further. Our little ray of sunshine shines her emotions with every peppy step and swing of the trunk.

(Her sidekick, slow-and-steady Bungalu, is more subdued by nature but no less cheerful. He is also very happy to play second fiddle to Kaikai — just see how she refuses to abdicate the lead!)

Kaikai and Bungalu are two of the youngest orphans in our care, and they are here today because of supporters like you. Both will have a home with us until they are ready to reclaim their place in the wild — a process that may take upwards of a decade. By adopting, you support their journeys and receive regular updates on their progress.

❤️‍🩹 Your person is missing you more than you think…

There are moments when they want to text you so badly, but their ego stops them. They see something that reminds them of you, replay old conversations in their head, and secretly wonder if you still think about them too. 💭

They act like they’re fine without you, but some memories are hard to escape. The late-night thoughts, the little things you used to do, the comfort they felt with you… sometimes, it all comes rushing back when they’re alone. 🫂💔

And a part of them still wonders… “Do they miss me the way I miss them?” 🥹❤️

you haven’t spoken in days, things ended without the closure you deserved. Or you both still care, but neither of you knows how to break the silence. 💔

And somewhere in your heart, you keep asking yourself…

✨ Do they ever think about me?
🥹 Do they miss me the way I miss them?
💭 Do they regret losing me?
❤️‍🩹 Will they reach out, or is this really the end?

If these questions have been on your mind lately, a personal tarot reading can help you explore the current energies of your connection, possible blockages, and potential next steps. 🔮
