“I don’t know how to save the world. I don’t have the answer. I hold no secret knowledge as to how to fix the mistakes of generations past and present. I only know that without compassion and respect for all of Earth’s inhabitants, none of us will survive. Nor will we deserve to.”
- Leonard Peltier, Native American Activist

Over the last year, I’ve continued to reflect on this quote. Not because it offers solutions. Not because it gives a roadmap. But because of how plainly it tells the truth of our world. Survival has never been about the right “fix”, but about having the right heart. So simple, so direct. Seems easy, doesn’t it?

While this quote can challenge almost anyone willing to listen, there needs to be more. Facts alone have yet to persuade people to care. It’s easier to turn a blind eye and focus on what is directly in front of you and call that survival, isn’t it? I think we all understand that, but we also know the cost and who’s paying it. And what a privilege it is to simply know.

So if facts can’t move us, what will? This is where storytelling plays a crucial role. The power it holds is limitless. Long before Instagram captions from your favorite curly biologist, narrative passed down everything that mattered. A good story not only informs, but transforms through ethos, beauty, and context. The people brave enough to share what they’ve seen, what they’ve lost, and what they believe is still possible is where I’ve found hope. I admire the soft yet radical way of saying: this is my story, it matters, and so does yours.

Rewiring our communication to relay purpose, hope, and activism through storytelling in a reality where it is so easy to concede under immense and stressful pressure is such a powerful tool. The diversity of our voices and the solidarity of our purpose is our greatest strength.

So tell your story! The one about what you love. The one about what you’ve lost. The one about the moment something shifted and you knew you couldn’t look away anymore.

In that, remember we have the power to do good, be kind as we are able, and to never give up on making the world a better place.

Let’s move ONWARD, together!

I know how to save world problems! Only allow cat people to be in leadership positions. They understand the meaning of earning respect and how to abide by another living creatures boundaries.
