🎙 Introducing: Fırat Yücel & Aylin Kuryel

🎬 Fırat Yücel and Aylin Kuryel are the Amsterdam-based duo behind @imageacts, a collective working at the intersection of documentary filmmaking, activism, and image politics.

🎞️ Fırat is a documentary director whose work explores collective filmmaking and resistance against censorship through video essay, archival/found footage, and desktop documentary. His anthology film 𝘚𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘜𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘯: 𝘈𝘯 𝘈𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘺 𝘰𝘧 (𝘈𝘶𝘵𝘰)𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 premiered at IFFR and screened at MoMA and CPH:DOX.

🎓 Aylin is Assistant Professor in Literary and Cultural Analysis at UvA, where her research spans image politics, nationalism, and the politics of emotions. She’s also a documentary filmmaker in her own right.

👁️ At The Hmm, they’ll be bringing their practice into conversation with the new orality as a critical framework – asking what it means to make and circulate images when the media environment is increasingly breakneck and algorithmically driven.

🔖 Their current favourite corner of the internet is Spot Basın Kooperatifi, a Turkish meeting platform for independent journalists with a YouTube channel worth falling into.
