So proud to have just unveiled Tuan Andrew Nguyen’s "The Light That Shines Through the Universe" on the High Line Plinth as our fifth commission.
Decades after the world watched the televised destruction of the Bamiyan Buddhas—a catastrophic act of cultural erasure—Tuan has brought one of their silhouettes back to life in New York City.
By recasting the missing hands from the brass of artillery shells, he transformed the literal materials of war into gestures of fearlessness and compassion.
It is a work that reminds us that while monuments can be destroyed, memory can always be forged into something resilient, powerful, and new through the transformative vision of artists.
