This piece was fired in a wood kiln, and it turned out a lot darker than my other work. The others came out more orange and tan, so this one surprised me. I think it might be because I used a different type of clay, but wood firing is always unpredictable, which is also part of what makes it interesting because you never really know how they will turn out!!

For the form, I tried something new by connecting two bases into one shared body. I added holes just to create more visual interest.

When I was building it, I left the bottom part exposed because it was still fragile. Then we had snow days and school closed, so it dried out more than I expected lol 🥲 (never again) and because of that, I couldn’t go back and refine it or add more details.

My process of building this piece definitely taught me to be more mindful of the time and when to let the clay dry :)
