Which state has America’s worst gerrymander? After a year of redistricting battles, we have an answer.

We’ve based our ranking on the results of thousands of computer simulations that draw districts without any consideration of partisanship or race. We compared each state’s map with the simulations, then sorted them according to two equally weighted measures: How many more seats the map gives one party, over the simulated estimates and how aggressive the gerrymander is, meaning how close the map is to the most extreme gerrymander we can cobble together out of the simulations.

Because the simulations don’t take partisanship into account, some states are considered fair even if the map appears tilted toward one party or another. #Socialites, please let’s take a moment to send love, prayers and our deepest condolences to the Johnson family as they have just lost their husband, father, and the heart of their home.

Marcel Johnson, the Michigan dad who let hundreds of thousands of strangers ride along through his tough stage 4 cancer fight, died on November 2, 2026, at about 4:45 p.m. He was 32.

His super strong wife Tay announced the news in an emotional TikTok video, explaining he had moved into palliative and hospice care and was surrounded by his family at the end. She also wrote, “I lost a whole entire half of me. He fought so hard for so long. He was so tired & exhausted & in so much pain. Yesterday the only words Marcel said all day were to me & Dedric and it was ‘I’m ready to go’ and that was in the morning. He still fought to hang on all day so we just got a bit more time. I truly don’t even have words right now. I feel like this can’t be real life. How can this be real f—-g life. I thought I was going to wake up and he was still going to be here beside me. I love him with my whole entire being and life will absolutely never ever be the same.” Supporters were heartbroken by the news but also sent her love and positive words for sticking by his side through every step of the way.
