It’s time to pause.

The tension keeps building. The changes keep coming. The ground is moving.

AI is reshaping how we work, uncertainty has become the permanent condition, and the pace of disruption won’t slow down anytime soon.

The old mental model — push harder, do more, keep up — is burned out. And the next era of leadership is searching for an identity to hold onto, because what we knew about leading people is not going to work in tomorrow’s workplace.

We need to reset and recalibrate. But most don’t know what that means. Or whether there is room to pause long enough to create the space needed to think forward with care, not urgency.

That space exists. But we’ve been taught to look for it outside ourselves — in the next strategy, the next tool, the next answer someone else provides.

The Self-Care Mindset® starts with a different premise.

Our human intelligence has never been recognized for its full capacity. With AI as a thinking partner, we are the advantage. Our wisdom, not our speed. AI can process — only humans can care with intention and choose where to put our attention.

For too long we have let the machine fuel the fear of not being and doing enough. We have lost our attention to overwhelm. Our thoughts have become disruptive of our own sense of peace and agency — instead of shaping the direction of our choices and impact.

The ground moving around you doesn’t have to mean the ground moving beneath you.

When we learn to work with our thoughts instead of being driven by them — when we recognize overwhelm as a signal rather than a verdict — we stop reacting to the noise and start responding from something steadier.

Not certainty. We don’t get certainty right now.

But clarity. Discernment. The capacity to think, engage, and act from a place of wisdom rather than fear.

That’s what self-care actually builds. The human intelligence to navigate what’s real — and lead from the inside out even when everything outside is shifting.

The ground is moving. You don’t have to move with it.
The Self-Care Mindset® (Wiley) gives you the tools to find that ground within yourself.
